Remember kites? Do children still fly them in an annual rite of spring, or are they one more casualty of the era, swept away, like those darling buds of May in Shakespeare’s sonnet, by rough winds? My own memories of kites are tethered to two things: an enigmatic poem by Elizabeth Bishop and some traumatic experiences long past.
