by Ann Kjellberg, editor The AI provisions in the Writers Guild of America contract were great news for writers and writing, but how do they fit into the larger picture?
Thank you for this informative post, Ann. I have been pretty much avoiding this subject for various reasons. Your article is a good place to stop hiding my head under a rock. I have also been baffled at how secretive the AI process is, or seems to be. Who exactly are the people creating it? And I also can't stand the 'please regulate us' ploy. So disingenuous. The whole thing kind of seems to stink ..
Me too! As I said (re avoiding it). I do think there's some merit in keeping the strength of writing up in the hope that the mechanisms will to at least some extent organize themselves around that. At the very least, if the digital sphere becomes totally ungoverned perhaps people will just return to print, like LPs, or develop some sort of stable vessel for durable writing and thought.
A brilliant and incisive report. Yikes!
Thank you! I am trying to follow the cultivez notre jardin response. Maybe if we keep at it the old way it will find its strength …
